More from the Guadalhorce, Malaga

Friend John Wainwright seems to be having a busy week and yesterday, Wednesday, found him down at the Guadalhorce in Malaga where he seems to have had an excellent morning with lots of good birds from the off.  His account by email is as follows:

Our first sighting was of Monk Parakeets, then Nightingale, Reed Warbler, Woodchat Shrike, Barn Swallows, House Martins, Little Egrets, Little Ringed Plovers, Kentish Plovers, Pochard, Red-rumped Swallows and White-headed Ducks.  A lone Whimbrel flew overhead then Sardinian Warblers, Redshanks, Black-winged Stilts, Little Grebes, Common Sandpiper, Moorhens, Common Coots, Bee-eaters, Ziotting Cisticolas, Golden Orioles, Dunlin, Gadwall, Serin, Lesser Kestrels, Sanderlings, Grey Plovers, Curlew Sandpipers, male and female Pied Flycatchers, seven Collared Pratincoles, male Sparrowhawk, male Common Redstart, Night Heron, Whiskered Terns, Cetti's Warblers, Turtle Dove, Collared Doves, Audoins Gulls, Black-headed Gulls, Mediterranean Gull, Yellow-legged Gulls, Greater Flamingos, Shelduck, White Wagtails, Yellow Wagtail (presumably the Blue-headed Iberian sub-species), Avocets, Grey Herons, Spotless Starlings, Black-necked Grebes, Mallard and Shovelers

Pied Flycatcher  Papamoscas Cerrojillo  Ficedula hypoleuca

Also seen was the Black-headed Weaver - I realise this a "no-tick" as it is an escapee - was here again; apparently it has bred here.

Not a bad days birding... have attached two photos but could not catch the Redstart on camera.

Your are quite right, John; not a bad day's birding.  I make that at least 54 species.
